LITTLE ROCK, Ark — Jr. Clay scored 33 points and eclipsed 2,000 for his career, but the Tennessee State men’s basketball team fell to the Little Rock Trojans 89-77 on Saturday afternoon at Jack Stephens Center. 

Clay added six assists to his 33-point game to lead the Tigers (11-10, 3-5). Zion Griffin helped out with nine points and nine rebounds and Dedric Boyd chipped in with 12 points.

Tennessee State pulled down 36 rebounds in Saturday’s game compared to Little Rock’s 35, led by Griffin’s nine boards. The Tigers also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 13 rebounds into 11 second-chance points.

How It Happened

Tennessee State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 39-29 heading into halftime.

Little Rock kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 67-46 advantage before Tennessee State went on an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit to 67-54 with 9:09 to go in the contest. The Tigers kept their comeback going, but Little Rock managed to hold on for the 89-77 win. Tennessee State took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 48 points in the lane.
